Thinking missionally, living locally.
Post-Christian Context
For centuries we have held modern Western versions of Christianity as the standard. Western churches were the sending churches, sending missionaries to regions of the world that had not yet been influenced by the Christian story. Today, the Christian story is losing influence in the West. Instead of the church being at the center of culture, we are now finding ourselves in an increasingly post-Christian culture. As such, we need to think missionally. Thinking missionally requires a shift of focus from trying to convert a culture to be more like “us” to becoming involved with the culture and allowing culturally unique forms of church to spring up from the planting of the gospel into the soil of each unique and distinct context.
Churches for the Sake of Others is focused on planting churches primarily on the West Coast of the United States. We expect C4SO church planters to live in the community where they plant. We have regional church planting mentors overseeing the work in their region. They are familiar with the cultural context of each region, have experience with missional engagement, and are focused on Kingdom realities.
